How to Remove Backgrounds on Canva for Free

To remove backgrounds on Canva for free, signup for an account if you don’t already have one. Once you login, you might be prompted to “Try Canva Pro for Free.” If not, click the “Try Canva Pro” button under your avatar toward the top left of the screen. Complete your trial sign-up and onboarding, and you should now have access to the Background Remover tool for 30 days.

With your Canva Pro free trial, begin a new project and then add your desired image to your project. Click the image and then select the “Edit photo” button. Finally, click “BG Remover” and watch as the background is removed from your photo.

Go to Canva.com and click “Get Started.”

Here you’ll be prompted to add an email, upon which case Canva will check if the email has been used yet, and if not, you will be led to the sign-up process.

Alternatively, you can Google something like “Canva pricing” where you can either “Get Started” or “Get Canva Free, or jump immediately into the Canva Pro free trial.

Upon signing up for a free account, you should be immediately prompted with an upgrade pop-up:

Here you can click “Start my free trial” and then follow the prompts to complete your subscription.

If you don’t receive the pop-up, once you create your Canva account and have verified your email address, you should see a “Try Canva Pro” button, as shown below.

Once you begin a new project you can choose photos from the Canva library or you can upload your own. Once your desired image is in place, click the image and then select the “Edit photo” button.
